Enjoying Andalusia by bike (easy to intermediate)

Between the provinces of Málaga and Cádiz, set in dreamy landscapes of interwoven peaks and valleys, you will find the “Pueblos Blancos” (White Villages) of the Ronda and Grazalema Mountains.
These villages constitute gems of popular Andalusian architecture, lodged between the deep green of their valleys and the rocky grey of the mountains. Biking through Spains pueblos blancos where every village is similar but so different. We cover small distances, as it is about enjoying the way and nature, have time to stop for a coffee or glass of wine with some tapas made of fresh local products. Every night we stay in a different village and get to know local life. We won’t cycle on main roads, but through villages and quiet roads in a relaxed pace. And we also have time to spend a day in Sevilla and Granada, both typical Andalusian towns with a great history and loads to see!

Trips program

Day 1  meeting in Sevilla and visit the town

We will arrive in Seville and enjoy an amazing Andalusian town. The capital and jewel in the region’s cultural crown. A rich blend of cultures and historical phases goes into every detail of the magnificent Mudéjar architecture, into every note of the flamenco guitar, and infuses the animated nightlife that spills from bars and bodegas, invigorating the plazas and narrow cobbled streets of the city.

overnight Seville

Day 2 transfer to Ronda and time to visit

today we take the bus to Ronda and spend our day in this lovely town in a breathtaking setting, a town split in half by a river gorge. Rondas bullring was one of the first in the world, now luckily only a museum. Don’t miss a café con leche y churros for breakfast!

overnight Ronda

Day 3 Ronda – Setenil de las Bodegas by bike, ca 35 km

Our first cyling day takes us in a relaxed pace to Setenil de las Bodegas, passing olive yards, along plains and amongst fields of cereal crops and sunflowers. The streets of this town resemble caves due to their position beneath the overhanging ledge of the Río Trejo gorge. The rock forms a natural roof for many of the houses, some of them three storeys high. Time for some tapas and wine tonight

overnight Setenil de las Bodegas

Day 4 Setenil – Olvera 22 km

we leave Setenil and continue our way to Olvera, passing a few small villages where we have time for lunch and a typical spanish café. Tonight we stay in Olvera, a dramatic scattering of white houses that seems to tumble down a hill topped by a restored Moorish-era castle built into the triangular rock. If you still have energy you can ascend the spiral staircase of the tower for head-spinning views of the village below.

overnight Olvera

Day 5 Olvera – Zahara, 30 km

This day has some nice uphills till we finally reach Zahara de la Siera, a fortified hill village of red-tiled white houses clustered around a vertiginous crag. The main square of this village is full of life and you don’t need more than watching life there with a glass of wine, after a day cycling

overnight Zahara

Day 6 Zahara – Ubrique 40 km

From Zahara we continue to Ubrique, the most important and biggest town in the Sierra de Cadiz and famous for its leather products. Through forested areas and quite some uphill this is our longest day cycling. If you want to do shopping, Ubrique is the place. We can enjoy our dinner in a local restaurant again.

overnight Ubrique

Day 7 transfer or bike to Grazalema

today we get transferred to Grazalema, where we have time to relax in one of the nicest villages of the bueblos blancos! Grazalema is an appealing hiking base, with its narrow, sloping cobbled streets, and attractive Plaza de España. Built on the remains of a Roman settlement, Grazalema has been a wool-production centre since the 17th century

overnight Grazalema

Day 8 Granada
We have full day in Granada, one of the most impressive towns in Spain. Located at the foot of the Sierra Nevada Mountains, Granada is a historical gem blessed with a fusion of Spanish and Muslim art and architecture including the Alhambra Palace. Serene Islamic architecture, monumental churches, old-school tapas bars  make it an ideal city break.
